Guidelines for Sew or Quilt Snuggles PDF Print E-mail

Sewn or quilted Snuggles are composed of a washable outside and an inside comfort layer.

  • Quilts must be able to survive multiple machine washings.
  • Material suggestions: 100% cotton fabric, old towels (multiple layers), old clothes (such as denim, sweatshirts), old blankets, polar fleece
  • Comfort layer: use layers of material (such as flannel or terry cloth) instead of fiber batting.
  • Machine quilt rather than hand quilt or tie.
  • "Quickie Quilts" (using one piece of material that's quilted) are acceptable. These quilts don't have to be complex pieces of work.
  • If you use the packaged batting, for safety to the animals, please sew bi-directionally across the Snuggle to hold the batting in place. Loose batting can be ripped out and swallowed causing digestive problems.

There is no need to go out and get expensive quilting fabrics. Cotton flannels and terry cloth work wonderfully and wear very well. Even old clothes can be converted into Snuggles this way.

This pattern is provided for the Snuggles Project (www.snugglesproject.org) and is for personal use only.
