Letter: Daisy's Story
Tuesday, 11 August 1998

Dear Ms. French:

I recently read the article in Family Circle magazine entitled "The Snuggles Project."

I thought you might enjoy a "happy ending" story about a shelter dog. This past June, my mother and I were visiting my brother and his family in Franklin, TN. Their dog had died a month prior to our visit, and we were joining my nephew (age 13) on his search for another pet. We visited several animal shelters in the area in the hope of finding "just the right dog" for my nephew. At one shelter, there was a sign on the cage of a medium sized dog that said "Hi, my name is Daisy. A mean person in this area put a rope around my neck and dragged me behind a car. I know who it was, but I'm not talking. I recuperated at Dr. _____'s hospital and now am ready for a second chance. All I need is a lot of tender loving care and a soft blanket to sleep on." (The shelter had provided Daisy with a soft pink baby blanket.) Sad to say, when we left to go home in Philadelphia, Daisy was still at the shelter.

I mentioned this sad story to a co-worker (who has 2 Lhasa Apsos). He was so moved by it, he called the shelter to see if Daisy was still available. To make a long story short and sweet, he adopted Daisy, sight unseen, over the phone and faxed her adoption papers back to the shelter. He and his wife then flew down to Tennessee the following weekend and brought Daisy home! He said she is an "absolute love" of a dog . . . smart, sweet, and the 3 dogs get along famously!

Anyway, I just thought this was the neatest story. I've given my co-worker a copy of your article. Please send information and a Snuggles pattern to me. I'd like to help with your worthwhile project.

Sincerely,
Kathleen R.
